Day 38 Sioux Center to Algona
After breakfast in the old Commons bldg, Fred and I set out for Algona at 7 AM. It was raining, but, the wind was coming from the W. As we're heading due E, that's great.
It rained for about the first 3 hours of the day and was just under 70F. It was warm enough biking, but cool when we stopped at the refreshment spots set up for us by Hospers CRC and later Sanborn CRC. They both had good snacks and refreshments for us and a dry roof to stand under for a bit. Thanks to both churches.
We spent some time biking with Doug Schoon (AB) today. We missed a turn at one of the points along the way (we had lots of jogs in the route today). We thought we were heading way too far N but didn't confirm that until our road butted up to Hwy 18. As we looked at our maps there, a man named Greg stopped and asked where we were headed. He had seen the Sea to Sea story on the news last night and figured we were a part of that. He knew where we went wrong as he had just cycled that part of our route himself on a Breast Cancer ride. Being a cyclist, he had his bike rack on the back of his Tahoe and offered to drive us back to where we should have turned. As we had already overshot by about 10k, we took him up on it. Thanks again Greg.
We got into Algona at 3PM, stopped for a choco milk and now it's sunny out. I'm at the library and will head to camp shortly, a local elementary school. So the day went really well considering the distance we had to travel, not to mention the extra miles. Eight hours total including stops.
Totals for day: 197 klm (118 mi), 6:58 pedalling time, 28.5 kph avg (17.1 mph)

A lot of miles! I think your matter of fact accounts hide a little ( a lot?) of hardship. You are an inspiration to all who are following the tour. Ruth and I thought about you a lot today. God be with you brother!
