Day 58 Byron to Romulus

It was a pretty cool night last night with again a heavy dew. We left around 7:15. The later we leave the warmer it gets. The sun rises around 7 and it was nice all day. Later on in the afternoon it probably got to 75F.

The country side is quite nice here and reminds me a lot of the Langley BC area. Rolling hills and much agriculture.

We came through some nice little towns like Avon and Lima. Their main streets have large stately homes, nicely renovated. As this area was settled over 200 years ago, there is much history here and some of the homes are 200 years old. Neat to see.
We stopped for pie or pancakes in Lima (not Peru). Across the street was a very old Young Mens Christian Association bldg (YMCA) and old firehall (pic).

We had a lunch stop hosted by Palmyra CRC at the 100 k (60 mi) mark at one of the member's (Andy) farm which was right on route. It was very good and we all enjoyed it. Imagine, putting on lunch for 200 people.

We stopped at Rose Hill Mansion built in 1837 (pic). It's right across from Lake Seneca, one of the Finger Lakes (pic). The farmer here in 1850 was the first to use tile drainage which yielded him very good crops. That's when tile drainage caught on in the area.

We got into camp at 2:30, just ahead of the gear truck. We are at Sampson State Park which used to be a Navy training base in WW2 and a Airforce training base during the Korean War. (pics)

Totals for day: 159 k, 4:45 cycling time, 27.0 kph avg (16.2 mph)
